Moving Companies use a simple calculator for estimating the weight of the goods in your home. One method for calculating the weight of your household goods is by room. Some calculators are more specific, providing options to add specific pieces of furniture individually. You can also estimate around 1,500 lbs per room of your home. Here are some typical moving industry weight estimates:
- Studio Apartment = 1800 lbs
- 1 – Bedroom Apartment = 2200-3200 lbs
- 2 – Bedroom Home = 5000-6000 lbs
- 3 – Bedroom Home = 9000 lbs
It’s important to remember that the contents of every home vary, and the above numbers are estimates only. Also, don’t forget to include rooms like your attic, basement and garage.
Military PCS Relocation
At Apple Moving, we proudly assist our U.S. Service members through PCS. When you’ve received your orders, you’ll contact your servicing transportation office. They are responsible for answering questions on travel options and moving arrangements. May through August is peak time for military relocations so the earlier you make your arrangements, the better.
The maximum weight that may be shipped or stored at government expense is 18,000 pounds net weight. Some overseas locations have a limited shipment allowance. Your servicing Transportation Office can provide information on those overseas locations with weight limitations. Once you’ve determined the weight of your household goods, you may find yourself over the limit. You are responsible for the cost of the excess weight to be shipped.
