History

The University of the Incarnate Word has a long and rich history that dates back to the founding of the Incarnate Word Academy in 1869. The academy was established by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, a group of Catholic nuns who had come to San Antonio from France to provide education and healthcare to the local community.

In 1881, the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word founded the University of the Incarnate Word as a college for women. It was one of the first institutions of higher education for women in the state of Texas. The university gradually expanded over the years, adding new programs and buildings to its campus.

Today, UIW is a comprehensive university that offers undergraduate and graduates degrees in a wide range of disciplines, including business, education, nursing, and the arts. Check it out here
